Trip highlights
Today our passengers and crew aboard Stan Stephens Glacier & Wildlife Cruises got to see a lot of different kinds of wildlife including humpback whales, otters, a myriad of birds, sea lions etc.
We truly love all of the wildlife here in the Prince William Sound, especially the whales! Did you know that there are very specific ways to identify individual humpback whales? It’s true! According to Gulf Watch Alaska, there are unique markings and distinctive trailing edges on the flukes of humpback whales that are like fingerprints and help to identify each one. How cool is that? Although the population of these impressive mammals have declined during the Northeast Pacific Marine Heatwave of 2014-2016, we still get the honor of seeing humpback whales on a regular basis. And there has even been some new births in the area.
The optimum time to see humpback whale is April through November. We open mid-May to mid-September, so there’s plenty of time to visit us and see these majestic animals for yourself.
